Madison's 1st BIG Owie....

Well, I guess it was inevitable that my little Madison would have an injury sooner or later as active as she is. She loves to play and run and jump and all that great stuff and finally it caught up to her a bit. Yesterday we took the girls down to the Olson's house for some swimming and playing in the huge back yard. Kevin and Brett played water volleyball and Madison and Kaitlyn Olson were their cheerleaders. Lauren had a great time swimming and playing on all the toys and with the 2 dogs. She loves dogs!

Anyway, about 6pm we decided to walk back down to our house and order some pizza for dinner. While I was changing Lauren and getting pizza ordered Maddie and Kevin thought they'd wash the jet skis since they were both already in swimsuits. These are the jet skis that were stolen from us over a year and a half ago and we just got them back a couple of days ago, so wee-haw! Anyway, Maddie stepped down wrong and sliced her leg open on the trailer the jet skis were sitting on. She said, "OW" kind of quietly and then when she looked down to see how she was hurt and saw the huge gash...that's when she freaked!!!

Kevin was calling my name loudly from outside and I heard him and knew Maddie was hurt right away. We patched her up temporarily while calling the doctor, who happens to be in our ward bishopric, and he wanted us to bring her over to his house to take a look. We did and he said he'd meet us up at his office in 20 minutes. Madison was being a trooper. We got to his office and called her Dad on the way so that he could be there too.

The Doc met up with us there and brought his 4 "assistants" with him (4 of his kids), 2 of which stayed by his side the whole time giving their advice, etc. It was hilarious!!! They told funny stories and made sure to help take good care of Maddie. They made her a sword out of tongue depressers all taped together and on the way out gave ger handfuls of candy! The final count of stitches was 11, with 3 on the inside layer and 8 on the outside! She also had a gash on the front of her leg but it just got a bandaid.

All in all we know it could have been worse but it is hard to see yur little girl hurt. We are very appreciative of Dr. McClure for giving up 2 hours of his evening and grateful we didn't have to go to the ER. We are going to make him some brownies and a thank you card today. Madison got to stay home from school and she's going to have to miss a couple of soccer games and practices.

Her biggest concern after this whole ordeal..."Mom, does this mean that I can't twirl on the bars on the playground at recess because of the stitches?" "That's right... No bars!"
